SPECIAL OLYMPICS
Gordon Russell will be hosting the Tom Meinig Special Olympics on Friday, May 10th from 9:30-2:30 on the track. This is an annual event that has been taking place at Gordon Russell for over 20 years. We will have the chance to see over 300 athletes compete in a variety of events and it is a very special time for all participants and organizers. Come by and join in on the fun!
STUDENT LEADERSHIP
Gordon Russell Leadership Students traveled to Salem this past weekend to participate in the OASC (Oregon Association of Student Council's) Conference. We had 33 of our student leaders attend and there was a buzz in the air when they returned Monday afternoon. While at the conference, Gordon Russell was recognized as a Grand Prize Winner for our outstanding leadership program. Congratulations to our student leaders and to Mr. Tim Tetz for a great year and program.
EIGHTH GRADE PARENTS
To keep you all updated, eighth grade teachers have been working with students to ensure that they are meeting the requirements for promotion. All students have received a Promotion Checklist to monitor their progress and inform parents. We are in the process of sending out letters to notify you formally about both students success and areas in need of work completion. Please feel free to contact either Kim Barker (Patriots) or Bruce Schmidt (Eagles) if you have specific questions about student progress at 503.667.6900.
GRMS SUN PROGRAM
The Gordon Russell Middle School SUN (Schools Uniting Neighborhoods) Program is an after school opportunity for students to participate in both academic and enrichement activities after the school day. This is a county program that has been very successful at Russell and we are proud and fortunate to have established this partnership. To learn more about this program, Click Here.
GRMS ROCK STARS!
Gordon Russell staff have started a tradition of identifying influential staff members each month as a RockStar. A RockStar is a staff member who has impacted students and staff in a positive way and has gone above and beyond the call of duty. This is a perpetual award in the sense that last months recipient nominates the next staff member for the award. This month, Scott Stuhl, a sixth grade Math teacher, and Vickie Allen, our Media Center Educational Assistant, have been recognized as RockStars.
